Real-Time Flood Forecasts
Project overview
D2A Flood Risk Forecast visualizes real-time and historical flood risk across the continental United States.
Working within a tight timeline and limited resources, I rapidly iterated from a research prototype to a focused MVP. By prioritizing a small set of high-impact features, I delivered a polished user experience that can scale to product-market fit experiments and evolving user needs.

Human and economic losses from flooding are increasing.
Data2Action is a young startup that combines real-time flood forecasting with local data to deliver location-specific, actionable insights about flood impacts—both in the moment and for long-term planning.
Flood Risk Forecast is a web application that visualizes real-time and historical flood risk across the continental United States. Beyond surfacing predictions, it helps users analyze model accuracy over time and understand the story behind major flood events through clear, intentional design.
Working within a tight timeline and limited resources, we rapidly iterated from a research prototype to a focused MVP using a lean, user-centered design process. By prioritizing a small set of high-impact features, we delivered a polished user experience that can scale to support future product-market fit experiments and evolving user needs.
The application progressively reveals complexity—supporting both quick insights and deeper analysis. Applying a user-centered lens also exposed gaps in the underlying scientific models, informing their evolution and unlocking additional value from the data.
Element 84 implemented the designs using modern, cloud-native geospatial and web technologies.
